Russia-EU rail freight volumes reach lowest point since Soviet Union fall

Rail freight between Russia and the EU has declined to the lowest levels since the collapse of the Soviet Union, in light of the sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine. While the official results for 2025 have not yet been published, most analysts expect these figures will not exceed 2-3 million tonnes.
