Construction works completed on another Divača–Koper section

It has been a busy July for the construction of the Divača–Koper line, a key project for rail freight in Slovenia, with multiple milestones over the past few weeks. “The main construction works on the section from Črni Kal to Koper have been completed”, 2TDK, the company owning the infrastructure, said.

Now, all of Section 2 of the project (Koper–Črni Kal) is ready for railway works, which have already started and include laying rails, installing electrical equipment and arranging the accompanying infrastructure. The line includes five tunnels, for 11.6 kilometres, and two viaducts. This initiative has encountered many challenges since its launch in March 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and higher prices led to a 10% increase in total costs.

The completion of construction works along the Koper–Črni Kal section arrives just a couple of weeks after the launch of railway works inside the line’s longest tunnel, part of Section 1 between Črni Kal and Divača. Construction works in Section 2 are still being finalised due to delays caused by geological issues. The new Divača-Koper line should be ready by the end of March 2026.
