The UK government may be unable to make up its mind, but its infrastructure agency Network Rail is powering ahead with energising the north of England. The Transpennine Route Upgrade has seen its first electric wires erected as part of the scheme. Sparks now fly in North Yorkshire between Church Fenton and Colton Junction, where trains from Leeds join the East Coast Main Line on their way into York. This is one of the busiest stretches of railway in the north of England, with over 100 trains using the section each day.

Electrification won’t facilitate 125mph running. Diesels have been running at this speed for almost 50 years

If you think that that location was over due for an upgrade try looking west of Exeter!
The southeast, the Midlands and the North are having stuff upgraded that we have not seen yet!!
The distribution of funds to upgrade is not equal all over the country.

If you think that this line is overdue for an upgrade then perhaps you should take a look west of Exeter!
The southeast, the Midlands and the North are having upgrades on systems that we have not seen yet and still running on absolute block!
All the funds for hs2 and we’re still on the effluent.
