‘All modes need to be equally efficient,’ says EC’s transport officer
Maria Koidu, responsible for intermodal transport at the European Commission, said that no freight sector should be left behind when it comes to the Greening Freight Transport Package (GFTP). This, she added, makes it quite difficult to satisfy all the players involved. She shared her views during the European Intermodal Summit organised by UIRR on Tuesday, 28 November. During the event, EU politicians and industry players shared their views on the three pillars of the GFTP: the Combined Transport (CTD), Weights and Dimension (WDD), and the CountEmissions EU Directives.

Yes, indeed, railways have to prove equal, to other modes – and to clients, ware owners, in respect of quality and timely performance.
For claiming “backbone” of society railways, as all others, have to provide with safety factors.
Surplus capacity, redundancy, however devastatingly is missing at the most vulnerable mode, the railways. This is not sustainable!
Accordingly, regrettably, now railways is the mode that is obstructing Goal of Union…
