The ERTMS dilemma: ‘some locomotives might not run up to 2026’

One of the hottest debates in the European rail freight sector is the deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and its signalling and control component, the European Train Control System (ETCS). Alberto Lacchini, General Manager Italy at Railpool, highlighted some of the risks that the current deployment plan might pose. According to him, there is a concrete chance that some locomotives might not be allowed to run on several European railways until 2026.
