How smart wagons could redefine the next generation of rail freight

Rail freight operations in Europe still rely on manual, time-consuming safety checks — but a new digital monitoring system could transform the industry by introducing smart wagons. The MONITOR project aims to automate critical inspections like brake tests, reducing a 60-minute process to just a few minutes while improving safety and efficiency. “It’s a transformation tool, not just a set of sensors”, says Antoine Belleguie, innovation project manager at Rail Logistics Europe, which leads the project.
